Volunteer Opportunities

Our canine companion volunteer program focuses on socializing and exercising the dogs in our care. A shelter can be a scary place for a dog that has never been in a kennel before. Our canine companion volunteers can help make their shelter experience less stressful. Some activities they can do with the dogs are: brushing, walking, socializing, playing, reading a book.

Ages 10+ (Dog walkers must be 16+)

Our feline friends volunteer program just focuses on socialization and enrichment for the cats in our care. We have many cats that need a little extra tender loving care when they enter the shelter. Here are some ways our feline friend volunteers can interact with our cats: brush, socialize, read a book, snuggle or cuddle, play –

Ages 8+

Our PetSmart Pals volunteers will help care for our cats that are housed at the Fargo PetSmart. They are responsible for cleaning, feeding, and scooping litter boxes for up to 5 cat kennels. You can sign up as often or as little as you like on the cleaning schedule. We are so thankful for our PetSmart Pal volunteers who help us care for our cats while they await their forever homes in Fargo!

Ages 8+ *Legal guardian must be present for anyone under 16 years old. *

Please note that some of the volunteer opportunities do have age requirements that are listed on each section. *A parent or legal guardian must be present for all volunteers under the age of 14.*

All volunteers must complete a volunteer orientation and fill out our waiver prior to volunteering and interacting with the animals. Please fill out the online application below and once it is received you will receive a message via the preferred method of contact you select on your application to schedule a meet and greet. If you would like to do a paper volunteer application, please click the button to download it and drop it off at the shelter.
